The race for the English Premier League title is entering a crucial stage, commonly referred to as “squeaky bum time” by former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. Manchester City’s recent 4-1 victory over Liverpool has kept Pep Guardiola’s team in contention for the championship. (_CNN)

Manchester City scored three goals in the second half of their match against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, leading to a comfortable and well-deserved victory for the home team. Liverpool had been City’s primary competitor for the league title in past seasons.

The current Liverpool team is not as strong as in recent seasons, and it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side may have difficulty finishing in the top four of the Premier League. This is important because finishing in the top four is necessary to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott were the two changes introduced to Liverpool’s line-up following the international break.

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson (Tsimikas, 70), Fabinho, Henderson, Elliott (Oxlade-Chamberlain, 70), Jota (Firmino, 70), Salah (Nunez, 70), Gakpo (Milner, 82).

Unused substitutes: Kelleher, Gomez, Arthur, Matip.

Despite the absence of their 42-goal striker Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s attack was still effective. They quickly responded to Mohamed Salah’s 17th-minute goal with goals from Julián Álvarez, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gündogan, and the outstanding Jack Grealish.

Manchester City, who have won the league title for the past two seasons, had to secure a victory to stay competitive with current league leaders Arsenal. The Gunners also had a strong win on Saturday against Leeds United, winning 4-1 and maintaining an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

The upcoming match between City and Arsenal on April 26 could be crucial in the title race if both teams continue their current form. After the game, City will have only six fixtures remaining and Arsenal will have five.

At the Etihad Stadium, Mohamed Salah scored an excellent first-time finish, giving the Reds the lead after 17 minutes.

However, Julian Alvarez scored an equalizer for Manchester City ten minutes later. In the second half, City secured the three points with goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jack Grealish.
